About the role: -

Experienced designer – print & digital
We are seeking a senior-level designer with flair, creativity and experience of meeting deadlines to work across variety of media for a dynamic events company. Candidate must have strong creative design and artworking skills – with ideally min. 3-5 years’ experience in design role including print and online. They must also demonstrate the ability to monitor and manage workflow and production schedule to deadlines.

  • Responsible for delivery of marketing design projects from brief to production
  • Design marketing collateral, including:
  • Billboards, press and tube advertising, programmes and tickets, brand logos and product identities, business cards, media packs, sales brochures and associated material and more
  • Generating new design ideas whilst maintaining brand integrity, generate ideas for new launches

     as well as product rebranding

  • Design magazine show page sections in all exhibition issues of all magazines (features, conference
    timetables, floorplans) and lay out classified sections
  • Design covers and editorial spreads across VMG titles
  • With Head of Publishing, source locations, suppliers and services for photoshoots (ie photographers, studio, makeup artists), at competitive rates
  • Maintain house style and ensure effective, visual communication is achieved across products
  • Help maintain positive relationships with client contacts and, when needed, create design work        to briefs set by clients


  • With Head of Publishing and the rest of the team, collaborate with digital department to enhance and assist with online/web/digital marketing products where necessary, in line with commercial objectives of the business and to drive the success of digital products
  • Create and/or maintain visual identities for each portfolio’s online presence digital products
  • Create and proofcheck digital magazine and assist wider team in distributing/raising awareness of same
  • Liaise and maintain relationship with contact at digital publisher, YUDU
  • Demonstrate understanding of and implement design’s vital role in social media and other online platforms, such as video
  • Deliver design aspect digital projects from brief to production, including:
  • Digital advertising screens, email headers, exhibition web advertising – static/animated and collateral for use on social media

Production and workflow

  • Assess design department workload and feedback at weekly design/production meetings
  • Assist team with:
  • Communicating submission deadlines and technical specs to clients
  • Chasing ads to client deadlines
  • Pre-flight checking to ensure print quality
  • Proofing adverts to ensure clients meet bfa and magazine guidelines
  • Regular advertising progress meetings with Sales Managers and Editor
  • Design amendments to adverts/client content where deemed necessary

To-print production

  • PDF magazines, directories and any other material ready to print
  • Upload magazine and approve final sign-off alongside Editor

Skills required
Essential: Indesign CS 5.5, Photoshop CS 5.5, Illustrator CS 5.5
NB: Must have print production skills and experience
Desirable: Video editing software – After effects/Premier

Candidate should also have:

  • Creative design and layout skills – flair and imagination, can bring ideas to life along with a strong interpretive sense for design briefs
  • Awareness of latest and emerging trends and ideas, design-wise and knowledge of typography
  • General magazine experience, adept at retouching/Photoshop
  • Evidence of successfully creating original designs/logos/branding or rebranding for variety of products
  • Production skills for print design & web
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong eye for accuracy
  • Ability to understand and write design specs for various print/online products
  • Good knowledge of technical aspects of print and web, ie web buttons/banners and the use of jpg, pdf, (pix size)
  • Experience of following style guidelines/new layout templates and ability to adhere to existing templates and upholding company/brand standards
  • Flexibility and be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately and handle/prioritise volume of workload
  • Good communication skills, able to liaise and collaborate with departments and clients on design briefs
